Troubleshooting

The windows are not merging onto the group's button

"Missing Shortcut" when I click the pinned button

The pinned shortcut points at a copy of PerchBar.exe that is no longer there. Start PerchBar from its new location, which repairs every pinned group on startup, or run PerchBar.exe --make-shortcuts. See Moving PerchBar.exe.

The button has the wrong name or icon

The shell reads both from the group's Start menu shortcut. Open the Groups dialog and choose Apply, which rewrites both shortcuts; the next click picks it up. If the button borrowed a member's name, the Start menu copy is missing — the same Apply puts it back.

My hotkey does nothing

Clicking the button opens an application instead of the group

That group has a member ticked under Opens. Right-click the button for the Jump List, press the group's hotkey, or middle-click, to reach the group view instead — or untick it. The sentence under the members list always says what the button will do.

Shift-clicking the button does nothing

Once one of the group's windows is open, Windows handles a click on that button itself and PerchBar is never run — so a held Shift changes nothing. Use the Jump List, the group's hotkey, or a middle-click. Shift-click works only before the group has any window open.

I want a look at what PerchBar is doing

Tray icon → Open log, in the Debug and Release builds. Windows that PerchBar could not touch are logged with the reason, and access denied there means elevation.
