Opens: what the icon does

The Opens column ticked for one member and clear for the other

One member ticked under Opens: clicking the group's icon opens that one instead of showing the group view.

With nothing ticked under Opens, clicking the group's pinned button shows the group view: a list of every member, so you choose.

Tick Opens for a member and the button becomes a launcher for it instead. Click the button and that member is activated if it is running, or started if it is not.

Ticking more than one

Tick several and the button opens all of them. That is also how "open everything" is expressed: tick every member. There is no separate setting for it, which means one concept instead of two that look alike — at the cost that a member you add later is not included until you tick it.

Getting to the group view anyway

A group with ticks has not lost its view:

Once a ticked member is open, the group view is what all three of those give you: there is nothing left to open, and putting the window you are already looking at back in front would be no use. Holding Shift and clicking works only while the group has no window open — after that Windows handles the click itself and PerchBar never hears about it.

The sentence under the list always says what the button will do, so you never have to work it out from the ticks.

If a ticked member cannot be opened — it was uninstalled, say — PerchBar shows the group view rather than leaving the button looking dead.
